Take the stage, find your place
We offer English language acting classes for theatre and film, right here in Geneva and Lausanne. The course is designed for anyone who can understand and make themselves understood in English. So whether you are a native speaker, a motivated learner, or simply an actor wanting to gain experience acting in English, this could be for you. Acting in English also serves as an excellent complement to the professional training program (in French only) at Acting Line Studio, allowing students to realistically position themselves internationally by increasing their self-awareness, and turning their effective language skills into a strength.
Discover theatre and on-camera acting under the guidance of industry professionals who are native English speakers. You will have the opportunity to explore the joys of performance and the stage, enhance your acting skills, learn to manage stress, build self-confidence, and improve public speaking, among other benefits.
This course is open to all levels, ensuring that everyone finds their place, as instructors tailor their approach based on each student’s level and ambitions.
In Acting in English, we work on the following:
Acting techniques through engaging exercises: breathing, concentration, listening, attention, immediate belief, body and voice control, relaxation, tempo-rhythm, emotional and sensory memory, self-awareness, spatial awareness, partner awareness, emotional states, imagination…
Improvisation: learn to adapt, be flexible, generate dialogue, create and bring characters to life, understand dramatic stakes and conflict, develop spontaneity and authenticity in performance, learn to engage in real listening, and to speak from a place of reaction rather than anticipation.
Scene work: learn to understand a text’s meaning and subtext, analyze and play out a situation, create and develop a character, refine the understanding of concepts such as creation and repetition.
On-camera work: audition techniques, discovering oneself on screen, understanding scene rhythm in filmed performances, awareness of the camera frame, and developing a relationship with the camera as with a scene partner.
The course is inspired by well-known acting methods such as Actors Studio, Lee Strasberg, Stella Adler, and Sanford Meisner, in the Stanislavski tradition, which emphasizes emotional authenticity, psychological truth and the power of the imagination.
We work with texts and scenes from the English, American and international repertoire, both contemporary and classic, including works by Tennessee Williams, Shakespeare, and Arthur Miller, among others
“In our class, we value kindness and strive to develop a supportive group dynamic, which goes a long way to help students to overcome their fears as they pursue their journey on stage. Facing and leveraging the gaze of others on stage requires self-awareness, self-confidence and trust. Accepting the challenge of removing the mask in such conditions—this is what breathes life into a performance. A nurturing and encouraging collective allows us to develop these skills. […] Whether on stage, as an artist, or in everyday life, we must learn to find our place »
Andrew Gordon, coach at Acting Line Studio
The course culminates in a theatrical performance as part of our annual school festival, Les Trois Coups, held in a real theatre in Geneva. Participation is voluntary, but not mandatory, and students can choose to take part in the performance or simply attend the various shows presented by the school.
It is possible to attend a trial class in the city of your choice—for the discovery, teen, and Acting in English classes—before joining the program.
